Beard and eyebrow transplant, with the manual technique

When your beard grows in patches or your eyebrows have lost density, a manual transplant can fill in the area with your own hair. At La Clínica del Pelo it is performed by Dr. Irene Thuel with our clinical team, after a consultation that determines whether you are a candidate.

Who is it for?

  • A beard with areas that do not grow, or grow with little density.
  • Eyebrows that are thinner after years of plucking, because of a scar, or because they never grew dense.
  • A moustache or sideburns with gaps.
  • Scars in the beard or eyebrows where hair no longer grows, assessed case by case.

Before talking about a transplant, we look for the cause. If the hair loss in the beard or eyebrows is due to a condition that is still active, it needs to be treated first.

How it is done

We use the manual FUE technique: follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area, usually the back of the head, and placed in the beard or eyebrows following the natural direction and angle of the hair. The ARTAS robot is not used in these areas; it is designed for large areas of the scalp.

  • Consultation: Dr. Irene Thuel examines the area to fill in and the donor area.
  • Design: we plan it with you before the procedure, so it suits the shape of your face.
  • Procedure: under local anesthesia and outpatient; you go home the same day.
  • Follow-up: reviews to see how it evolves and to support you with aftercare.

Recovery

In the first days it is normal to have small scabs and some redness in the transplanted and donor areas. The transplanted hair usually falls out in the first weeks and then grows back little by little; the result becomes visible over several months. Everyone recovers at their own pace: at your consultation we explain the aftercare and when you can return to work, exercise and shaving.

Something worth knowing from the start: hair transplanted to the eyebrows comes from the scalp and keeps its way of growing, so it may need trimming from time to time.

Like any medical procedure, a transplant has risks and requires aftercare. Dr. Thuel explains all of them before you decide.

Every case is different. Your treatment plan or medical procedure is designed for you. The indication, recovery and results are explained at the consultation.

Questions about beard and eyebrows

Will it look like a transplant?

The goal is a natural look: that is why the design respects the shape of your face and the direction of the hair. The result depends on each case and on the donor area; at your consultation we explain what is realistic to expect.

Where is the hair taken from?

Usually from the back of the head. Dr. Thuel defines the donor area at your consultation, based on what she finds in your case.

Does it hurt?

Local anesthesia is used. Afterwards there may be mild discomfort in the first days. At your consultation we explain what you will feel and the aftercare you will need.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the area, the number of follicular units needed and the design. That is why the investment is defined after the consultation, once we know your case.
