How much does a hair transplant cost?
It is one of the first questions, and a fair one. The honest answer is that it depends on your case: no two transplants are the same. Here we explain what defines the investment and why we give it to you after the consultation, once we know what you need.

What defines the investment
- The area to cover: filling in the temples is not the same as covering the crown or a large area.
- The number of follicular units: it depends on the area and the density you are looking for.
- The donor area: how much hair is available to transplant without affecting that area.
- The technique: robotic with ARTAS, the only one in Costa Rica, for large areas of the scalp, or manual for small areas, the beard and the eyebrows.
- Treating the hair you keep: a transplant does not stop the loss of the hair that was not transplanted, so it is often worth combining it with Hair Restoration.
Why we do not quote without seeing you
A figure given without examining your scalp would be a guess: it could fall short or make you think about a procedure you may not need. First we confirm whether you are a candidate. Sometimes the best option is to start without surgery.
At your consultation, Dr. Irene Thuel reviews your case with SmartHair, defines the plan with you and we explain the full investment before you decide.
What is worth comparing, beyond price
- Who does the consultation and who performs the procedure.
- Whether they clearly explain if you are a candidate and what is realistic to expect.
- What the follow-up will be like: aftercare and reviews matter as much as the day of the transplant.
- Whether the hair you keep is also treated.
If you are thinking about having the transplant abroad, consider how the aftercare and follow-up visits will work once you are back home.
Every case is different. Your treatment plan or medical procedure is designed for you. The indication, recovery and results are explained at the consultation.

Questions about the investment
How much does a hair transplant cost in Costa Rica?
It depends on the area to cover, the number of follicular units, the donor area and the technique. That is why we do not quote an amount without a consultation: Dr. Irene Thuel defines your plan and we explain the full investment before you decide.

Do I always need a transplant?
No. Many people can be treated without surgery through a Hair Restoration protocol. A transplant is considered when restoration is not enough or when there are areas without hair you want to recover, and always after the consultation.
